Your Business/Yourself

Updated: Mar 20, 2018

Starting a business is exciting, Many people dream of owning their own business. Do you really know what it is like to own your own business?

One of the most important things you will learn in operating a business is how you respond to things. This is true in life generally but being responsible for people and your business is very different than going to work and having head office tell you the goals and plans they have set out for a year.

It's all about you.

I often say to be self employed is to face yourself every day

Are you comfortable facing your fears and your inner critic every single day? Are you willing to be challenged on the choices you make by your inner voice, confidence and insecurities, and out side influences such as staff, friends and anyone else who has an option. The fact is outside influences can be an aid in guiding your decisions for sure. However you knowing yourself, your total self is one of the most valuable skills you will have to accomplish your business goals.

Challenges are a fact

In reality you will wake up one day and question why you are doing what you are doing. There will be times when you will ask yourself "is this worth it", "why am I doing this". Dark days come and they can come hard. perseverance is a nice word but can be hard to do when your inner voice is screaming louder than everything else around you.

What do you do when it seems so dark ?

Check in by using measurable tools

Allies:

People who you know and trust. I can not express how important it is to create a network of entrepreneurs. When I first started my business I was fortunate enough to know people who were successful entrepreneurs. People who knew what I was going through. Even the most confident person has peer who they confide in. Build a network of these people. Dark days are guaranteed. It is how we navigate through these times that can make you or break you.

Coaches:

I didn't think coaches made a difference before experiencing a coach myself. Coaches help you stay focus, provide the space for you to shut out the noise and reflect on answers that work for you. They can provide a reflective resource to test your thoughts and help you stay on tract to the bigger picture of your business goals. In dark and challenging times a relatively small situation can feel like it is the biggest challenge you will ever face in your life. So having time to reflect and place perspective on a situation seems easy but can be extremely challenging in dark times.

Surround yourself with those who have no agenda but only YOU in mind. After all being in business is more than what you do. It is facing who you are every single day.
